October 17, 2013

In Fiscal Year 2013, the City of Greer recorded a record $740,381,970 in Gross Retail Sales including $536,690,985 in sales in the portion of the City of Greer located in Greenville County and $205,399,958 in the portion of the City of Greer located in Spartanburg County. This represents more than an 8% increase compared to Fiscal Year 2012 and a 38% increase compared to the pre-Recession high in 2008.

The City of Greer recorded more gross retail sales in Fiscal Year 2013 than 18 South Carolina Counties. The City of Greer had the fourth largest total retail sales figure in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties behind the City of Greenville ($4,879,325,442), the City of Spartanburg ($3,639,576,716), and the City of Mauldin ($1,421,218,963).

“From the high traffic commercial opportunities along Greer’s Wade Hampton Corridor to the truly unique shopping and dining experience that is Greer’s historic downtown, the City of Greer has proven itself as a dynamic and growing market,” said Wryley Bettis, Chairman of the Greer Development Corporation. “Residential growth has returned to the City of Greer. Community assets such as the Inland Port, BMW, and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport have provided opportunities for diversified industrial growth in Greer; and Greer has become a destination for healthcare providers. I could not be happier that Greer’s concerted effort to balance new growth opportunities with quality of life needs has produced fantastic results.”

“Fiscal Year 2013 marks the third consecutive year that gross retail sales in the City of Greer have produced record numbers. I firmly believe that is a testament to the quality of commercial properties, which translates to the skills of property owners and managers, as well as the loyalty shoppers from across the Upstate put in those businesses, City Administrator Ed Driggers said. “From specialty stores to family friendly restaurants, there is truly something for everyone in the City of Greer.”
