Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Board Unanimously Votes to Adopt Road Map to the Future Document
February 25, 2013
The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce voted unanimously at their February 14 Board of Directors Meeting to approve The Road Map to the Future document addressing South Carolina’s infrastructure needs. This plan details a three-prong approach to present before the SC General Assembly calling for critically important widening projects to interstates, fixing load restricted and deficient bridges and resurfacing existing roadways.
The recommendations to the General Assembly from this plan are as follows:
1. Dedicate 20% of new general fund revenue
2. Dedicate capital reserve funds
3. Re-direct existing vehicle related revenue
“The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, along with 10 civic and business organizations, stands united in our support of the Road Map to the Future proposals,” states Donna O. Smith, who serves as Vice-Chairman of Legislative Affairs for the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee. “The volume of traffic on our state’s roads continues to increase while maintenance and new construction declines. This isn’t sustainable and will hinder economic development, and that is precisely why the Chamber’s Board unanimously adopted these recommendations.”
