Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Resigns

May 15, 2014

(GREER, SC) Allen Smith, President and CEO of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, announced Thursday that he will be resigning effective June 13, 2014. Smith has been named the President and CEO of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce effective June 16, 2014.

Smith stated, “When I first arrived, I viewed my new position in Greer as a professional opportunity. Within months, it became personal. Since day one, this community has embraced me as one of its own. Since day one, the leadership of this Chamber and community have been nothing but supportive. Since day one, I found kinship with the finest group of people we commonly refer to as the “Chamber Staff.” The relationships I have built here will endure, and I will be forever grateful to this Chamber and community for the opportunity to serve.”

Smith began in Greer on June 6, 2010. With the support of the Chamber leadership, staff and business community, the Chamber attracted more members than any other period in its 76-year history. Over the past four years, the Chamber developed a shop local program that sent more than $200,000 to local businesses, solidified its financial position and created innovative programming, services and benefits.

Ken Harper, Chairman of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Executive Board, said, “We certainly wish Allen well in his new position. Selfishly, we are pleased that he will remain in the Upstate, and continue to serve as a positive force for further improvement in areas of mutual interest. Allen’s contributions to Greer and to our Chamber have been significant, and we wish to sincerely thank him”

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce will conduct a national search to fulfill the vacancy. Information regarding the position will be posted at www.greerchamber.com in the coming days.
