Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Recognizes Recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Leadership Award

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce and the Leadership Development Council have announced the selection of Rudy Painter from Countybanc Insurance, Inc. as the recipient of third Annual Outstanding Leadership Award.  This award was designed to recognize a graduate of the Leadership Greer Program that has demonstrated effective leadership and furthered the growth of the community through active involvement in community/civic programs, organizations and/or activities. 

President of Furman University, Rodney Smolla, was the guest speaker at this event sponsored by the Leadership Greer Alumni Association.  Members of the Leadership Greer Class XXXI were introduced to the audience. 

Rudy Painter is the Vice President of Countybanc Insurance, Inc. and lives in Greer, South Carolina.
Painter is originally from Easley, SC and has worked there and in Anderson, SC. He was active in Chamber work in both of those locations. He came to Greer in 1994 where he immediately became involved in the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce. Painter has served the Greer Family Festival in numerous capacities since 2000. He served as Chairman of the Greer Family Festival for the last several years and helped motivate hundreds of volunteers and festival staff towards the most successful Family Fests to date. Not only did he spend countless hours in planning meetings and sponsorship solicitation during the months leading up to the event, he also worked behind the scenes to make sure the festivals were even more economical for festival attendees to enjoy.
 
Painter has served on the board of the Greater Greer Chamber in various positions of leadership over the last thirteen years.  He has been a director many times and in recent years served as Vice-Chairman of Membership and Vice-Chairman of Government Affairs.  He was the recipient of the Greer Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year Award in 1996 and the Chairman’s Award for Excellence in 2004 and 2010.  He was Chairman of the Board in 2003 and also served as the Greer Chamber’s Vice-Chairman of Membership and Communications for the year 2005.
He is married to Marsha Campbell and has five children.

The announcement of the winner of the Outstanding Leadership Award was made on August 19th at the Outstanding Leadership Luncheon.  In addition to the Award, this event, organized by the Leadership Greer Alumni Association, served as a kickoff for the Leadership Greer Class 31 and the official passing of the gavels to the new Chairmen of each of the Leadership Greer program Boards for 2010-2011.

“We are very proud of our Leadership programs and wanted to recognize those individuals that continue to demonstrate leadership skills in the community,” said Patrick Fortenberry, Chairman of the Leadership Development Council and a local police officer “For thirty years, graduates of this program have been making a difference in the Greater Greer community,” said Fortenberry.  “This award and the Leadership Luncheon is a tribute to the accomplishments of our graduates and the continued success of the Leadership Greer Program.”
