Greater Greer Education Foundation Greer Gala was a Night to Remember!

(Greer, SC) The Greater Greer Education Foundation was launched at the 2nd Annual Greer Gala on Thursday, October 1, 2009. The Gala event began in 2008 and served as the grand opening of the new City Hall for the City of Greer and the Board of the Greater Greer Education Foundation is thankful that the City of Greer allowed the Foundation to continue the gala as a major fundraiser for the Foundation, states Bill Roughton, Chairman of the Board for the Greater Greer Education Foundation.

This year the Foundation partnered with the Greer Station Association to present A Taste of Greer Station which featured local downtown restaurants providing their best cuisines. The participating restaurants included BIN 112; Cafe Mundo; The Cazbah; The Great Bay Oyster House; Lunch & Such; Rechauds; Riverias; and Wild Ace Pizza and Pub. The evening included entertainment by Southern Crescent, a silent auction sponsored by the Greer Station Association, the presentation of the Margaret Burch Education Award, and the unveiling of the new Greater Greer Education Foundation Logo.

The Greater Greer Education Foundation was formed to refocus our efforts and provide grants to schools and educational organizations serving the Greer area. Educational programs that can be sustained or developed that will prepare the next generation workforce for business and industry, Roughton adds. Margaret Burch, educate advocate and 20 year member of the Greenville County School Board, will assist with the management and operations of the Foundation. The Greater Greer Education Foundation Board presented the Margaret Burch Education Award to Citizens Building and Loan for their major contributions to many community organizations. Their commitment to education is evident through their contributions to Visions of Excellence, Greer/Blue Ridge High School Academic Scholarships, Greer Christian Learning Center, Leadership Greer, Junior Leadership Greer, Joshuas Way, the Greer Soup Kitchen, and a special teacher mortgage rate. Their community involvement and contributions have played a major part in education in the community. The Margaret Burch Education Award was designed to recognize individuals or businesses that have significantly impacted the field of education, either through innovative programs, unselfish dedication to children, or through other avenues that foster the learning experience.
