Greer Chamber to Feature Guest Speaker Dr. Courtney Tollison at September First Friday Luncheon

(GREER, SC) The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce announces that Dr. Courtney Tollison, Museum Historian at the Upcountry History Museum and Assistant Professor of History at Furman University, will be the guest speaker at the September First Friday Luncheon. Tollison will be speaking on, “The Chaos of ’68: Upcountry South Carolina in a Changing World”

Dr. Courtney Tollison is Museum Historian at the Upcountry History Museum and Assistant Professor of History at Furman University in Greenville, SC. A native Greenvillian, Dr. Tollison earned undergraduate degrees in history and women’s studies from Furman University. She continued her education at the University of South Carolina where she earned a graduate certificate in women’s studies and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in History. Her research interests include the civil rights movement, upcountry South Carolina history, oral history, women’s history, and the history of Furman University.  She has authored numerous articles and published a book about the history of Furman University. Her current research involves upcountry residents’ contributions to the World War II effort and the impact of the war on upcountry South Carolina. In 2006, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce awarded Dr. Tollison their inaugural Young Professional of the Year Award. Dr. Tollison also received the upstate chapter of the Association for Women in Communication’s Communicator of the Year award for her work in developing Furman University’s Oral History Program. Dr. Tollison serves on the Alumni Board of Christ Church Episcopal School, Furman University’s Young Alumni Council, and the board of the Carolina Ballet Theatre.
