Butler has spent his entire 20-year career in the Southeast. Most recently, he worked as the evening anchor for WAGT-TV in Augusta, Ga., which is the home of the Masters golf tournament. Taking this job in Greenville, has brought Butler's career full circle since it actually started in South Carolina. During his first job out of college, he worked as a sports anchor and radio talk show host for WVOC-AM in Columbia. He said that he enjoyed covering the Gamecocks and Tigers during that time. Since then, Butler has helped start up the news department at a cable company in Rome, Ga., anchored the morning news in Fort Myers, Fla. for nearly 11 years and the evening news in Augusta, Ga., for the past 3½ years.
Butler has covered everything from national political conventions and debates, to the World Series, to one of the most destructive hurricanes this century. He said that the thing he enjoys the most is simply meeting a wide variety of people and telling their stories, which are often the most inspiring and interesting.
