U.S. Chamber Awards Greater Greer Chamber with 5-Star Accreditation

December 11, 2007

(Greer, SC) The United States Chamber of Commerce has awarded the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce with 5-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.

“Accreditation recognizes chambers for their high standards of practice, full accountability to members, and steadfast commitment to community,” said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “We applaud these organizations for advancing these principles of free enterprise.”

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take 3-6 months to complete.

“Of the 6,936 chambers in the United States, 298 of these are accredited.  Of the 298 Accredited Chambers 38 are accredited at 5-stars,” states Chamber President John Kimbrell.

2007 Greer Chamber Chairman, Phil Feisal adds, “This is a wonderful accomplishment for the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce.  I would like to personally thank Larry McGriff and his Accreditation steering committee for their hard work in achieving this major accomplishment.  This endeavor was a major initiative for the Greer Chamber this year and it is very gratifying knowing that we rank as one of the best chambers in the United States in terms of programs, operations, standards, and accountability.”

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce will be accredited at 5 stars for the next five years.  After that time the Chamber will have to go through another accreditation process.

Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. State chambers are recognized as either Accredited State Chamber or Accredited State Chamber with Distinction. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary, non-profit organization that represents approximately 580 businesses in the Greer area. The mission of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce is “To Champion Economic Prosperity for our members and the greater Greer community.”  For more information on the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, call 864-877-3131 or visit www.greerchamber.com.
