(Greer, SC)  The Board of Directors for the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for the 25th Anniversary Village Hospital Greer Family Fest presented by City of Greer and The Greer Citizen to be held in Downtown Greer, SC.  The event is scheduled for May 1st and 2nd throughout the downtown area.

“We are excited about celebrating the 25th Anniversary of this Festival in downtown Greer,” stated Rudy Painter, Chairman of the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest event, “Tradition has been key for the success of the Family Fest, and this year will be no different. We are featuring the best of the old and have added some exciting new elements designed to add an extra level of enjoyment.”

The two-day event features music on the Garfield Main Stage and BMW Manufacturing Co. Dick Ploof Community Stage, Children’s Parade and Anne Helton Creation Station presented by Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi Kids Zone, Restaurant row, and arts and crafts vendors.  

The Family Fest Board consists of the following volunteers: 
Larry Beheler, Stan Christofferson, Don Foster, Adele Langford, Wanda Moore, Rudy Painter, Andrea Payment, Sharon Pond, Bill Roughton, and Nancy Welch.

New features for the 2009 Village Hospital Greer Family Fest:

The festival will kick-off with a 25th Anniversary Celebration which will highlight the past 25 years of the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest.

Friday Night Family Night: What better way to celebrate 25 years of this incredible festival than to have a special “Family Night” price for rides?! Friday, May 1 from 6:00-10:00pm the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest will sell “Pay one price – ride unlimited” bracelets for only $15.
Hollywild Animal Exhibit: Festival organizers are thrilled that Hollywild will be participating in this year’s festival! They plan to bring many exotic animals for a petting zoo, including llamas, donkeys, zebras, sheep, and more! There will also be opportunities for children to ride animals. The Hollywild Animal Exhibit will be open on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 - 10:00pm.

Suzanne Green Art Exhibit: Another new feature for this year’s event is the Suzanne Green Art Exhibit which will be at The Davenport on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00-10:00pm. The late Mrs. Greene was a local artist who had a flavor for capturing on canvas the essence of Greer in not only historic sites, but local individuals.

Youth Extreme Zone: Festival organizers wanted to offer some fun for the pre-teen and teenagers this year by featuring a new “Youth Extreme Zone” with rides such as a mechanical bull, rock wall, extreme obstacle course, bungee run and jousting ring. The Youth Extreme Zone will be open on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 - 10:00pm.

Regional 1 Village Hospital Helicopter landing: Early Saturday afternoon, families will have the opportunity to check out this helicopter up close and have the opportunity to get inside!

KidsZone Stage: This new stage, added especially for the 25th Anniversary event, will feature local dance shows, karate exhibitions, and more in the KidsZone area of the festival! Greer Idol Season 3 Auditions: Try-outs for this popular summer music competition will take place at the Village Hospital Greer Family Fest! You can register to try-out online at

Cornbread and Collard Greens Festival: Mac Arnold & the Plate Full O’ Blues is bringing the Cornbread & Collard Greens festival to downtown Greer on Saturday, May 2 from 4:00pm - 10:00pm.

Event times are Friday, May 1st (6-10pm) and Saturday, May 2nd (10am-10pm).  A full list of food and craft vendors and entertainment will be available on the event website at closer to the event.

The festival is FREE to the public!  Tickets to purchase food, beverage and children’s rides can be purchased on site; craft vendors sales are cash transactions. The event is alcohol-free, and pets, coolers, skateboards and bicycles are not allowed in the event site.
