Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Announces Partnership with Upstate Workforce Investment Board

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Upstate Workforce Investment Board. The Chamber will promote the Upstate WIB and serve as the organization’s chief liaison to the Greater Greer business community.  Allen Smith, President/CEO of the Greater Greer Chamber stated, “The missions of the two organizations are so similar, it is only natural for the Chamber to help advance the fine work of the Upstate WIB. This partnership is of tremendous worth to our members because the Upstate WIB offers a variety of services specifically designed to improve their bottom line.”

The main purpose of the Upstate Workforce Investment Board is to direct federal funding to workforce development programs in Cherokee, Spartanburg, and Union counties. With offices in Cherokee, Greer, Spartanburg, and Union, the organization has tools, resources, and support for businesses, job seekers, dislocated workers, the unemployed or underemployed. Their business services include Registered Apprenticeship, Incumbent Worker Training, On-the-Job Training programs, labor market information with South Carolina and national economic data, wage and salary statistics, labor force and unemployment data and more. They also provide WorkKeys assessments and ACT job profiling that can help businesses select, hire, train, develop, and retain and highly productive workforce. They also have job posting services including recruitment advertising, application prescreening, and job fair and interviewing support.

Numerous services are also offered through the Workforce Development Centers that are designed to benefit job seekers, laid off workers, new workforce entrants and persons with disabilities. Services are designed to promote and improve employment, job retention, earnings and occupational skills.

These services include:

  • Job search, job referral and placement assistance
  • Free use of computers, printers, fax machines, phones and copiers for job search
  • Career counseling
  • Workshops designed to give job seekers the edge they need to succeed
  • Internet access for job search
  • Labor market information
  • Tools to enhance job search
  • Interview counseling
  • Scholarship opportunities for training

The Upstate Workforce Investment Board and the Greenville County Workforce Investment Board have partnered to offer services within the Greater Greer community at Greer Works, which is located at 600 North Main Street, Unit D in downtown Greer.
