Greer Chamber Announces Concern Over Coastal Windpool
April 2, 2007
(GREER, SC) The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors approved a legislative position to enter the dialogue with elected officials regarding the state’s wind pool and rising property insurance rates along the state’s coast in order to communicate its concerns over expanding the wind pool and risk to the entire state.
In recent years coastal property insurance rates have skyrocketed. Coastal property owners are looking to elected officials to assist in these rising costs. As a result, elected officials are discussing many ideas to help with these rising costs, including the idea of expanding the risk of coastal property insurance beyond the coast in order to curb rising property insurance costs. The Greer business community is concerned that the state may seriously consider forcing inland and Upstate commercial and residential property owners to share that cost in order to subsidize coastal property insurance.
As a result, the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce has taken a position to increase this issue’s importance and to actively participate in the legislative process regarding this issue.
