Greer Chamber Announces Interim President

February 9, 2010

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee is pleased to announce Larry Wilson as Interim President. Wilson has been involved in the Greer Community and the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce for over twenty years.

Wilson is currently the Vice Chairman of the Partnership for Tomorrow Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Partnership for Tomorrow Oversight Committee, and President of the Greer Development Park, Inc.  He also serves on the following boards: The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce and the Greer Development Corporation. He was the Chairman for the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce in 2000 and has been involved with the Greer Chamber in various positions since his arrival in Greer. Back in 2003, he received the “Sud Pagent” Volunteer of the Year Award. More recently, he was also awarded the 2009 “Duke Energy Citizenship and Service” award.
Wilson will begin his duties as Interim President on Monday, February 15, 2010.

“Larry Wilson brings a tremendous amount of leadership and management experience, as well as past and current Chamber knowledge in filling this role”, said 2010 Chairman of the Board, Brian Martin.  “The Board greatly appreciates his willingness to serve and with Larry’s experience and leadership, I am confident the organization will not miss a beat while the search goes on for a new CEO,” said Martin.

Current President, John Kimbrell, is leaving to pursue a new opportunity as CEO of the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce in Gastonia, North Carolina. Kimbrell’s last day will be Friday, February 12.  During his five and a half year tenure with the Greer Chamber, Kimbrell was successful in implementing a new tiered-dues structure, retiring all of the Chamber’s debt, instituting new programs and events, and growing the organization to over 600 members.

Brian Martin remains confident the Chamber will continue to be successful.  “With the amazing staff we have in place, the experience of the leadership team we have, the strength of our membership and the unbelievably dedicated volunteers we have in this community, I have no doubt that the Greer Chamber will continue to thrive.”

Martin has formed a CEO Selection Committee to interview and hire a new President/CEO for the Greer Chamber.
Members of the Selection Committee are:
Phil Feisal, Village Hospital – Chairman, CEO Search Committee
Brian Martin, Martin & Davis LLC
Donna Smith, Prudential C. Dan Joyner
Jean Greer, Greenville Technical College – Greer Campus
Bunny Richardson, BMW Manufacturing Co.
