Greer Chamber Announces New President

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee is pleased to announce the hiring of Allen C. Smith as its new President.  Smith will be new to the Greer Community as he and his wife relocate here from Greenville, North Carolina, where he has worked for the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce for the past five years.  

Smith currently serves as the Senior Vice-President with the five star accredited Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce where he has also served as Vice-President of Operations. Through his responsibilities with this position, Smith has gained extensive experience in developing programs for members such as the Greenville-Pitt County Young Professionals group and a Chamber/Member Gift Card Program, collaboration with local, county and state government in furthering the Chamber’s legislative agenda, and the financial acumen required to develop and manage an annual budget in excess of $700,000. Smith is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organizational Management and has been invited to be an Advisor at the Institute this year. In 2009, he was selected by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives as one of its “Top 40 under 40”. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives as well as the Assistant District Governor for Rotary International District 7720. Smith graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a minor in Communications.

Smith will begin his duties as President on Monday, June 7, 2010.

“Allen is a great fit for the organization,” added Phil Feisal, Chairman of the CEO Search Committee, “He has a lot ideas to help further and develop the growth the Greer Chamber has already experienced in the last few years.”

Larry Wilson has been serving as the Interim President since the departure of John Kimbrell on February 12, 2010.  Kimbrell served as President for five and a half years with the Greer Chamber during which time he implemented a tiered-dues structure, retired all of the Chamber’s debt and grew the organization to over 600 members.   

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary, non-profit organization that represents approximately 600 businesses in the Greer area.
