Greer Chamber Recognizes Recipient of the 2008 "Outstanding Leadership Award"

(GREER, SC) The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce and the Leadership Development Council have announced the selection of Rick Danner as the recipient of first Annual Outstanding Leadership Award. This award was designed to recognize a graduate of the Leadership Greer Program that has demonstrated effective leadership and furthered the growth of the community through active involvement in community/civic programs, organizations and/or activities.
The announcement of the winner of the Outstanding Leadership Award was made on August 12th at a special Leadership Luncheon. In addition to the Award, this event, organized by the Leadership Greer Alumni Association, served as a kickoff for the Leadership Greer Class 29 and the official passing of the gavels to the new Chairmen of each of the Leadership Greer program Boards for 2008-2009.
Mayor, Rick Danner of Leadership Greer Class 1, has been making a difference in this community and the state for many years. He is employed at Greer State Bank as Vice-President of Human Resources and Security. He has also served as the Mayor of the City of Greer since 2000. His community and state involvement includes service on the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Greer Development Corporation Board of Directors; City of Greer Comprehensive Plan Oversight Committee; Partnership for Tomorrow Board of Directors; Greenville/Pickens Area Transportation Study Committee; Chairman of the Greenville County Mayor’s Association; Greenville Technical College-Greer Campus Advisory Board; Graduate Greenville Advisory Council; Business Academics Advisory Board for North Greenville University; Upstate Together Regional Planning Group; Upstate Forever member; Upstate Alliance member; South Carolina Mayor’s Design Partnership Graduate; Upstate Diversity Leadership Academy Graduate and current President of Municipal Association of South Carolina.
The other two finalist were Bunny Richardson of BMW Manufacturing and Bill Roughton of CapitalBank. Nominations for the award were made by members of the Greer Chamber of Commerce and the recipient must be a graduate of Leadership Greer or Junior Leadership Greer and must have demonstrated effective leadership and furthered the growth of the community through active involvement.
Senator Jim DeMint was guest speaker at this inaugural event sponsored by the Leadership Greer Alumni Association. Members of the Leadership Greer Class XXIX and the 2008-2009 Jr. Leadership Greer class were introduced to the audience.
“We are very proud of our Leadership programs and wanted to recognize those individuals that continue to demonstrate leadership skills in the community,” said Brian Martin, Chairman of the Leadership Development Council and a local attorney. “The impact our graduates have had and are having in the community should be showcased and we felt like an Outstanding Leadership Award was an excellent way to do that,” Martin said.
John Kimbrell, President of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce adds, “For twenty-eight years, graduates of this program have been making a difference in the Greater Greer community and this award will serve as a tribute to the accomplishments of our graduates and the continued success of the Leadership Greer Program.”
The Leadership Development Council governs the leadership programs of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce, including Leadership Greer, Junior Leadership Greer and the Alumni Association.
