Leadership Greer Class XXVII Unveils Second Class Project
April 4, 2007
(Greer, SC) Leadership Greer Class XXVII and the Leadership Greer Alumni Association have partnered together to offer commemorative bricks as part of their fundraising efforts. The bricks will form a unique path to the new Amphitheatre at the City of Greer Municipal Complex in downtown Greer. All proceeds from the sale of bricks will go towards the creation of a J. Verne Smith Memorial on the complex grounds.
The commemorative bricks will be available for purchase for the first time to the public at the Municipal Complex groundbreaking April 9, 2007, 2 pm at the corner of Cannon and East Poinsett Streets. Bricks are $25 for a 4x8 which holds up to 3 lines of text with 20 characters each or $50 for an 8x8 which holds up to 6 lines of text with 20 characters each.
“Our class thought this was a fantastic way to partner with the City and the Alumni Association in developing a project that involves the community while assisting with the completion of the Municipal Complex and honoring the late J. Verne Smith,” said Melissa Thomas, Vice-President of Leadership Greer Class XXVII.
Ed Driggers, City Administrator for the City of Greer commented, “The signature brick and paver project is a perfect opportunity for everyone in the community to become involved in this historic project. You will literally be etched in the history of this significant community milestone. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity -- you will not want to miss it.”
“It is great to see the Leadership Greer class take the lead on this project. This type of project is a great example of what Leadership Greer is all about,” said John Kimbrell, President of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce. “It is exciting to see community leaders getting involved in the development of the Municipal Complex while recognizing one of Greer’s greatest leaders---J. Verne Smith. I encourage everyone to embrace this project and support Leadership Greer in this endeavor.”
