Mitsubishi $500 Scholarship was Granted to Riverside High Student for Higher Education

May 14, 2009

“Leadership is a character trait that should be not only recognized, but also rewarded”.
Leadership Greer Class XXIX continued tradition, this year, by granting the Mitsubishi $500 Scholarship for Higher Education to a senior high school student who has been through the Jr. Leadership Greer program.  This scholarship was created by Leadership Greer Class XXII as part of their class project, and is to help the recipient ease the financial burden of higher education.

Five hundred dollars, presented to Class XXIX by Mitsubishi Polyester Film, will be awarded to the student who has best demonstrated their leadership abilities through scholastic, athletic, service and work activities and achievements during their high school career.
This year’s scholarship recipient was Alexandra Dinu from Riverside High School.  Alexandra was present at the Jr. Leadership Greer graduation where Tim Lincolnhol, Vice President of Leadership Greer Class XXIX and Phil Ellenburg, with Mitsubishi Polyester Film, presented the scholarship.  Alexandra has been accepted at the University of South Carolina and will begin her classes in the Fall. We wish her success during her collegiate pursuits.

During the selection process, applicants were required to give their definition of “leadership”.  See Alexandra’s definition printed below:

“Leadership is recognized by many as a “management skill” or as the ability to motivate a group of people toward a common goal.  However, through the Junior Leadership Greer program, I have learned that it extends much past that definition.  Leadership is not limited to leading people but also, making effective decisions that will benefit all in the long run.  A “true leader” is characterized by management skills that include the ability to not only make decisions but also, and perhaps most importantly, to listen to others along the way.”
